CANCELED!!

Bear River Ride (Cache/Rich Counties) - 2009

Get your dirt toys ready for a 100-mile round trip ride through the mountains of Cache/Rich counties. This is an easy to intermediate, but long ride from Monte Cristo across Ant Flats to Hardware Ranch and then north to the summit of Logan Canyon on graded dirt and gravel roads. The Ant Flat trail head is about 17 miles east of Huntsville (Pine View Reservoir) in Ogden Valley and is 1 mile before you get to the Monte Cristo Snowmobile Parking Lot. From the summit of Logan Canyon we descend into Garden City on the shores of Bear Lake for lunch and gas(oline) on a less-improved 4-wheeler trail. Your machines do not need to be street legal - we park them on the edge of town and walk a block or two to the "Famous Raspberry Shake" Drive-in for lunch. The Chevron station is right across the street from the end of the dirt trail.

The "wild men" among you will not find this ride to be challenging, but it is interesting and suitable for any rider. It will be dusty if dry, especially in a large group, so bring some "Wet Ones" and one of those white painter's masks. (No need to oil it before wearing.) The ride usually takes about 2-1/2 to 3 hours each direction, plus 45 minutes to the trail head from Kaysville.

Lodging: The closest place is Huntsville/Pineville, and the hotels up there are poorly rated. I would suggest hotel people stay in/near Ogden. Ogden puts you 44 miles from the parking/starting area. There is likely primitive camping available at the start point, which is a big parking area for snowmobiling in the winter, during the summer, no one's around. There's a pit toilet there, but not much else. It's BLM land, so I think it's OK to camp there or right nearby.
